Wellington

The tiny community of Wellington sits quietly on the banks of the West Walker River on State Route 208 in northern Nevada. Just southeast of the bustling Carson Valley, Wellington offers its roughly 1,000 permanent residents a quiet lifestyle filled with small pleasures. With many home sites situated on the scenic river itself, a popular pastime in the quaint community is fishing. The town also offers an authentic cowboy bar, inn and deli, all of which give Wellington the feel of an earlier era.

Wellington is also known for its 1898 one-room schoolhouse, an original structure that today houses an assortment of historical treasures and is now known as the Wellington Station Resort Museum. Items including freight wagons, mining and hand-forged blacksmith tools, as well as Paiute Indian relics, can all be found at the small, private museum, which is open by appointment only from May through September. The one-room original schoolhouse is yet another nostalgic element to be found in Wellington, a community situated off the beaten path and one that is definitely worth a visit.
